Corinthians

During the frenzy of the holidays it's easy to misplace an invitation to race or delay in filing it. Remember that the Corinthians are just around the corner (3d weekend of January) and if we want a separate start we'll have to build a fleet. Jane Doe is in, as is Takeoff. Who else>

Jane Doe is currently on the hard getting a new rudder at SF Boatworks. This rudder is the same as designed for Shanti and possibly others of you. I'm hoping to lose a lot of ugly helm with the change. I found a lot of wear at the top of the rudder bushings (my boat doesn't have bearings) which contributed to an annoying sloppiness in the action.

I toyed with the idea of pulling my keel and having it refastened at the centerline of the boat, but will probably pass on it due to costs. My boat is completely asymmetrical--the keel is off center and not straight either fore and aft or vertically, the mast step is off center, the partners are not centered and the rigging is not symmetrical. I don't know what I should expect from a production boat. I'm sure most boats are slightly off but the boat yard guys were shocked at mine. I'll sail with the new rudder for a while and see what that does for the feel of the boat. If it seems OK I'll ignore everything else and just have fun. If not, who knows.

See you guys on January 8 and hope to see lots of you the week following. My best wishes to all for a joyous New Year.
