I think Greg's idea is great and worth trying out. It will let everyone race
the events they want to or can fit into their schedule. We can still promote
certain races/regattas as "Fleet Events" or "Once-a-Month events" to improve
the turnout for those events. Being a promoted event and expecting more
participation there would be more points to be earned towards the
championship. More points to be earned would draw more participation. Or
maybe we could add some bonus points to races we wanted to promote.
Promoting an event seems to work. Look at the turnout for the BYC
Midwinters. The is the "promoted" midwinter series and we got a great
turnout.
All we have to do is decide which events we want to promote. Which brings me back to the first portion of the schedule: Big Daddy, Lightship, Spring Forward, Ron Byrne Memorial & Vallejo Race all happening within two months. I suggest we promote the Big Daddy, the Ron Byrne Memorial (if we are invited) and the Vallejo Race.
