I disagree, I sailed HOTFOOT in the MORC Nationals a few years back in LA and we had a local CAPRI 30 in the fleet. He did well in light air and anything over 15 knots he got killed, by myself and Olsen 911, Andrews 30 and of course a Santana 30 30. so he essentially came in dead last when the wind picked up.

He was rated appropriately then and I'm sure you all could make adjustments to accommodate him as well. What's the big deal from where I sit it looks like you could use some fresh boats in the fleet.

    When we conceived of the fleet the lowest PHRF number was that of Insufferable and, at the time, Pizote. It is not set in stone, but merely a product of happenstance.

    I would vote against the Capri 30 for the simple reason that it is not a displacement boat configured to the MORC criteria which makes our boats competitive against each other. We want boats that race pretty evenly up and down wind, and the Capri is not that boat. We decided against the J80 for the same reason. Simple PHRF comparisons don't tell the story. Similarly rated boats don't sail the same conditions similarly if they vary in length, sail area, displacement or other fundamental aspects.

    I've raced in the distant past against a moderately well sailed inboard version of the Capri 30 (Ally Cat, if I recall the boat correctly) and with a good skipper she was fast in the South Bay chop, but not up to the speed of an Olson 30. In the Los Angeles area I'm told the Capri 30's are consistently faster than Olson 30's due to less wetted surface. Received on Tue Oct 30 15:07:52 2001
