Brought a disposable camera on the trip up to Vallejo, and took some shots as time permitted. Of the shots I got of the fleet (not many; you guys kind of left us behind in that "wind shift") the one I got of Takeoff was (slightly?) marred by my big grubby finger(s). I got a decent shot of T10 Arianne, and one of IXXIS and Tortuga racing to windward in front of the (barely visible) gate. I have doubles, so if Ed, Steve, Joan or whomever from Arianne want a shot, toss me an address and I'll mail it. A little cropping and you're set!
Note to self: When it comes to cameras, you get what you pay for.

Congratulations to Bob & the Jan Doe crew; they got a well deserved first
place. Our entire crew had a blast both on the water and while docked.
Just
saw a picture of our boat with all the people piled on - WOW, didn't think
the boat could hold that many happy folk.
Thanks Joan. Every once in a while we get lucky and find the right lane.
Being light on crew (4 total) helped in the light stuff but hurt us big time
at the end of both Saturday's and Sunday's races. On Saturday we doused the
kite early on the final leg to the finish rather than running the risk of a
disastrous takedown if one of the J105's around us decided to reach up--a
big
mistake when the wind backed and held all the way down the Mare Island
channel. Sunday we simply got overpowered at the end and could not hold
Tortuga off down the stretch when the apparent breeze built to 18.
Sunday's race was more luck than skill for us. We caught some breaks and
got
out of the channel in front of Jeannette when it was forced to do penalty
turns. We worked our way up the seawall for a while, then checked the GPS
and decided the current wasn't bad enough to justify the multiple slow tacks
and bad air. We broke left with a few other boats, found the wind line a
bit
earlier than most, then just stayed on the jib trim all the way down the Bay
to stretch out on the fleet. We actually never saw any of our competitors
until the end of the race when Tortuga overhauled us and Jeannette moved up
close, but by then there wasn't enough time for them to overcome the rating
difference.
We had a great time both days. Thanks to all you guys for making the
weekend
a great one for us on Jane Doe.
Bob
