Seattle Laser Sailors,

If the 2007 Frigid Digit is any indication of our year to come, we are in for some good times. 32 Lasers (one 4.7) and 4 Opti’s were treated to 12 races in a variety of conditions on the waters of Shilshole Bay. A big thanks to our volunteers:

Chairman Michael Cenname
RC Lisa and Jay Renehan, Julie Davis, Wendy Robards
Mark Set John Schalka
Safety Boat Chuck Asper
Food Julie and John Schalka
Registration Jim Lyle
Trophies Dan Falk

On Saturday the conditions matched the forecast exactly. A consistent 10 knot North Easterly provided 6 very tightly packed races with multiple boats overlapped at each mark and many photo finishes. Tactical and boat handling mistakes were costly with such a tightly packed fleet. A start line with a slightly favored pin end combined with a fleet eager to get a port tack lane toward Golden Gardens provided a significant challenge to everyone.

On Sunday the conditions again matched the forecast. A gusty 10 to 15 knot South Easterly allowed for an additional 6 races. With the wind coming through the high bluffs in Ballard and Fort Lawton it was not unusual to see 10 degree shifts with each puff. Keeping an eye out for these puffs was critical both upwind and downwind success.
