Seattle Laser Fleet:

Some of you may have heard rumors about a new Laser Dealer in Seattle. I did some digging and would like to share what I found.

Marine Servicenter has assumed the Vanguard Sailboat dealership from Cat's Paw Boats of Poulsbo. They are the now the exclusive Washington dealer for Vanguard Products. Currently, they are housing the dealership at the Anacortes location, which is also the full service boat yard and warehouse portion of the business. Marine Servicenter has a sales office at 2370 Fairview Avenue east in Seattle on the East shore of Lake Union, but due to limited space and layout do not currently offer Vanguard products, sales, parts, or service from that office.

Marine Servicenter has initiated construction of a new waterfront facility at 2442 Westlake Avenue North on the West shore of Lake Union to open in the spring of 2005. They will be moving the Vanguard dealership from Anacortes to this new location. This should put them in close proximity to most Seattle Laser Fleet members. The future location will offer a retail showroom, boats in stock, demo boats on pull-up docks, service, and a full parts department.

I got an email from Ray Hines of Marine Servicenter who has taken the lead for the Vanguard dealership. Here is what he says:

"The long and short of it: We are in transition with the goal to provide the dinghy sailing and racing community with a long overdue Seattle location by next years sailing season. We can currently provide for your needs through our Anacortes location though it may take a little more time, whether it is us shipping goods or our customers making the drive up here. Be patient, our new facility will be great! Please be sure and check out our back page advertisement in this month's (October) edition of 48 North magazine outlining our new location and plans for the future. Feel free to contact me with questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns.

Thank you from our crew to yours!

break

The second to last race of the CYC season happens this weekend. The Fleet Champs is traditionally a well attended event and should be a good one this year.

Not sure if anyone has noticed but I have not updated the SLF webpage since late summer. Unfortunately, I am not able to get on to the DRLaser site to update things. Shevy is incognito and I am waiting for him to come back online to revive my username and password. In the mean time, I am looking into getting a different ISP for the site and would appreciate anyone who may have ideas. I'd like to share the duties of web master with anyone that is willing and able.

Andy Hunt and I are in the process of laying out the 2005 calendar. The Youth Circuit will cast their schedule in stone at the upcoming Pumpkin Regatta. Anyone who knows when your event will happen in 2005, please let me or Andy know.

The 2005 Frigid Digit is on the horizon and we will need to appoint a chairman for the event. Jim Barrett did a bang up job last year. Jim, your last task with organizing the FD2004 is to find a chair-man/woman for FD2005. All the same questions exist: Location (sound, Sand Point, Leschi?), Date, RC, marks, whalers? Anyone interested?
