In addition to the soup served yesterday, 2 November, you will all be
pleased to know that I started on my seafood chowder for next Sunday, 9 Nov.
Although I am exceedingly reluctant to give out recipes, I am willing to at
least divulge the key chowder ingredient. For a truly great chowder, one
should collect for steaming the seafood, as I did yesterday, Puget Sound
water inside ones hull. Of course, the best of Puget Sound is the effluent
from the sewage treatment plant at West Point, (why we sailed south instead
of north) which when mixed with Vanguard's fiberglass particulate residue,
forms a truly specially seasoned liquid for steaming clams, etc.
Thanks to Kurt Hoehne whose hot chocolate made the whole day especially memorable. Kurt, are you willing to divulge the source of your water?

Sunday morning Puget Sound looked like a mirror pond with a slight drizzle providing the only texture. Jay Winberg showed up early and the consensus was that it was not worth launching the whaler and putting out marks due to the lack of wind. People started to show up near noon and the wind magically appeared after that. A group of about 7 or 8 boats set out and by 2:30 it was a solid 15 to 20 knot Northerly with a clear crisp blue sky. The group sailed down near West Point where the waves were bigger and then worked their way back up to laps by the Ballard Blinker and finished up with some of Marty Seeligs Gourmet Extravaganza.
Next Sunday (Nov 9) a CYC Whaler will be manned and marks will be set. First start is noon. This will be the last organized event before the CYC Turkey Bowl Regatta. For those that are willing to do a little road trip, the Blue Nose Regatta is this coming weekend (Nov 8, 9) at the Kitsilano YC. This regatta has its roots way back in time and traditionally includes a truly gourmet extravaganza on Saturday evening. The kids in Vancouver welcome lots of people to come up and enjoy English Bay.
