Subject: SLF-45a - Message to those who raced in Vancouver Last weekend and stayed in the Jericho Youth Hostel re: Health - forwarded from Laser Class Secretary
Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2001 22:02:21 -0700
If you or anyone you know stayed at the Jericho Youth Hostel in Vancouver,
British Columbia for the Canadian Nationals (Lasers or Twos), a medical
advisory posted by the Canadian Board of Health may concern you. People who
stayed at the Jericho Youth Hostel may have been exposed to meningococcal
disease and should contact a physician and be treated with antibiotics
immedately.
Information released in a medical advisory notice says that early symptoms
are much like flu and include fever, sore throat, and generally feeling
unwell. However, meningitis symptoms are usually more severe and progress
more rapidly to a severe headache, stiff neck, vomiting, and/or a tiny
reddish/purplish bruiselike skin rash.
For more information, contact Dr. Jane Buxton or Dr. Jim Salzman of the
Vancouver/Richmond Health Board in Vancouver. The office number is
604-714-5699 and their pager is 604-680-4698.
Please forward this email to anyone you know who may have been at this
regatta or who may know someone who was there.
