Andy,
Thanks for the notice on the date change. I'll put it in the newsletter but
it may arrive too late to sufficiently notify sailors in your area.
Canadians will probably get the newsletter first though.
On a related note. There is such an active junior circuit in your area of the country. My feeling is that these sailors and the entire junior racing system would benefit greatly if more of these young sailors were members of the International Laser Class. The sailors would receive the quarterly class newsletter with regatta schedules and how-to articles to help them advance in the sport. Also, they would learn resposibility by making a contribution to the sport instead of just using the system. As you know, the berths for the Laser Worlds are determined by the number of paid class members in each region. The more members the more berths we get. With the Worlds being held in North America in 2002, now is the time to boost our membership to gain more valuable spots for the World Championships.
In order to improve our sailor's abilities on the world level, we need to have as many entries in world level events as possible. It's almost embarrassing that Great Britain had more Worlds berths than all of North America in the last Laser Worlds. But it then becomes clear why the Brits swept the Gold Medals in the singlehanded events in Sydney.
Do you think it would be possible to enlist some support among the organizers and host clubs on the Northwest Junior Circuit to encourage the sailors to join the Laser Class? If they only stayed members for one year it would boost our membership in time for the 2002 Worlds here. Stay in touch if you have any ideas on how to make this a reality. I'm working with the Texas Junior Circuit on a similar program. It's mutually beneficial.
Regards,
Eric Faust

Subject: Flights of Spring Regatta
Hi everyone,
Just to let people know that there is
CHANGE OF DATE CHANGE OF DATE CHANGE OF DATE CHANGE OF DATE The 2001 Flights of Spring Regatta will now be on April 21 and 22, 2001 and not April 28 and 29, 2001. This change came about due to various factors one of them being that the Flights of Spring was conflicting with the Kitten Cup (a NWYRC event). This means that the junior Laser sailors can now use the Flights of Spring regatta as a tune up regatta for the Kitten Cup.
