This is a reminder that the Annual meeting for the Southern California Fleet is this Saturday, November 10, 2001, starting at 1:00 p.m. at Seal Beach Yacht Club (255 Marina Drive, Long Beach). Everyone please try to make this meeting as there are a number of important issues to be discussed.
In addition to the Agenda items listed by Steve Murphy in his email of October 10, I would like to add a discussion of things to do to promote the fleet. I will call for this discussion following presentations by our Marina Del Rey and National fleet captain, Mike Guccione, and by our treasurer, Al Navarro, so that we can start out with a group understanding of some of the promotional activities we've tried in the past and how much money we might have available next year for such things as: advertising; local class trophies for events not on our official Southern California Class Race Schedule: possible class flags; membership in U.S. Sailing, etc.
I think we also need to add an Agenda item for possible rule changes in the by-laws. Possible changes might involve sail inventory (further or fewer limitations on the number and/or types of headsails and spinnakers, the use of asymmetrical spinnakers, etc.), crew weight limits vs. crew number limits, and the use of sailing "professionals" in class events. If any of you have specific proposals with respect to any such possible rule changes, I encourage you to circulate them in advance.
Hope to see you all on Saturday,
John Heaney
