I am considering the purchase of a 30/30 GP. What are the generic problems that seem inherent to the deisgn and the building techniques?

The ones that seem to pop up continually in the listserve are:

  1. Chainplates & Bulkheads
  2. Mast leaking
  3. Engines: BMW being suspect. BTW, what does it cost to re-engine w/ a Yanmar?
  4. Shore power: Wiring has got to considered suspect!
  5. Sitting headroom:

Some questions:
1. Can you lift the boat w/ a single point hoist if necessary & put it on a trailer?

2. Are there any problems w/ the keel to hull joints?

3. Are Rudder bearings more of an issue on these boats than other 30 ftr's?

4. Are the Barient winches a problem?

Anything else I should ask about or know to look for?

Cheers, Sean
