We had half the fleet of eight boats either quit before, during, or by the
end of the first race. Many round ups, round downs, and I heard of some
just plain old fashion complete rounds.
My main sheet came apart, jamming in the block, preventing us from relieving pressure on the main. Thus, we were into our second round up, then our round down, breaking the spin pole bridal. Then with one girl hanging her he head over the side relieving herself of an early breakfast, we called it a day. And this was all before we reached the first leeward mark of the first race.
Now I have new respect for those up north that have to deal with these kinds of winds on a daily basis, and know that I need to do some more schooling on how to handle these conditions.

Subject: the spinnaker that ate Glendale
I used a Jacuzzi and nothing could make these spinnakers less useable than there were. We put the spinnakers in and I had the whole family do the grape stomping thing on them. The water is black so we must have done something. I decided to put the blower on to agitate the water and help with the cleaning. It seemed like a good idea until the air coming from the bottom pushed the spinnaker out of the water. It was like a science fiction movie the spinnaker kept slowly growing. Our GP Chute was easier to keep underwater meaning that it has become very porous. It's New Spinnaker time.
Saturday brought 35 knot winds to MDR how was the race in Newport?? Lots of wind??

Mike,
If you put sails in the pool make sure there is no chlorine. I was told it will mess them up good.
