John this is a way cool idea that you have. I want my little class flag, there was a guy in San Pedro between west marine and the bridge that did nothing but flags. I don't remember the name but prices were reasonable and he would do whatever you wanted. John this is the kind of thing that could really make your administration go down in the Santana history books. This is big.:)

Mike--

My read on this is that the sender, "Engineered Textile Products, Inc.", is
a manufacture of flags and this e-mail to you is a clever way to drum up business. We don't have a "Class flag" per se and I don't know of any fleet in
Southern California who does. Al is exactly right. The "class flag" that the
race committee is encouraged to fly at the start of a particular class is a flag
(e.g., a Q or R flag) that the race committee designates in the race instructions as that class' flag for that start for that race.

That being said, the idea of an official Santana 30/30 class flag is an intriguing one. Imagine the impact on other participants in a regatta if each
member of our little group were to receive a small class flag upon paying his/her membership dues and encouraged to fly the flag whenever heading out to
the starting line, particularly in events where the Santana 30/30 fleet has its
own start. Imagine also the race committee being loaned the official, larger
version of the class flag to use on the committee boat to designate the start of
our class (instead of a randomly assigned letter flag, as is the current custom). It would sure get us noticed!

What do you guys think? Any idea about the cost involved?
