To throw in my 2 cents as a PHRF board member, I
cautioned the regional about the rating approach being
taken. Basically, nobody has any performance data. So
what is happening is regional/local handicappers are
pulling numbers out of their ass and debating over which
is better. Sailors may choose to buy A-sails at their
own risk based on these guesses. Two years from now
when there is on the water performance data those
individuals could take severe penalty hits, and be stuck
with a bad investment.
My recommendation was to have PHRF invest in VPP software to establish the performance differences, at least for those boats that have already been measured for IMS or Americap, such as the 30/30. Was voted down.
