RULINGS BY NATIONAL MEASURER TODD DOWNEY 1999 OLSON 30 CONSTITUTION The following rulings were made between March 2000 and the 2000 Nationals in Long Beach.

MAST STEP
Wed, 8 Mar 2000

The RULES are pretty clear on this.
The only adjustable mast base I want to see at the 2000 Nationals should be sitting on the table at the fleet meeting for the purpose of discussion. Entry forms will not be accepted from
anyone with an adjustable mast base
of any kind, working or not..

Thank you for your cooperation.

DRAG REDUCTION FILM
Mon, 20 Mar 2000

Measurer's ruling on drag reduction film.

Drag reduction film manufactured by 3M is a plastic film with very fine grooves applyed to the hull.
This product or any similar product is not legal on Olsen 30's. Any wax, polymer, McLube, bottom paint w/teflon, etc. is legal on Olsen 30's.

MAST WEIGHT This one will give us headaches. If you find that the stock Sparcrafts are light, we will need to amend the rule a little. For now I say they would be legal..
Todd.

MAST STEP AGAIN Existing steps vary in location
more than 1.5 inches in placement assuming forward bulkheads are in the same place. One "original" step measures about 24 7/16 inches from forward bulkhead to front of mast near the floor. The variation is roughly between 24 5/8 inches to 23 1/8 inches.

Also, we are allowing different materials i.e.metal in the steps as the original wood in some cases is lost and gone.

These variations are acceptable.

REPLACEMENT FOR HOLLYBOARD FLOORBOARDS:
OK SO LONG AS THE BOAT AS A WHOLE WEIGHS IN. REPLACEMENT FABRIC FOR BUNKS ALLOWED BEAM OF DESTINY (BOD) These are legal -- a bar bolted horizontally between the chainplates under the deck.

JOCK STRAPS A "jock strap" is something many PNW and SF boats have had for a number of years. It means putting a plate under the mast step (hence the rule interpretation), with tangs to attach wire or rod rigging that goes up diagonally to the chainplate bolts; this braces the boat completing the diamond with the Beam Of Destiny. TODD: They were determined to be legal years age.

FORE AND AFT STIFFENERS OR STRINGERS The foam/epoxy reinforcements under the deck inside the cabin on either side of the forehatch are ALLOWED as a repair to stiffen the
deck area without materially stiffening the length of the boat.

The extra 1-foot high bulkheads
fore and aft bracing between the forward bulkhead and the chainplate bulkhead
are DISALLOWED and must come out entirely. Received on Tue May 16 15:17:26 2000
