Hi Mark, yes, typically rig for jib leads n' such is really up to various
boats - class rules dont prohibit adjustments through deck; there are many
different configurations for running rigging throughout the PNW fleet, and
some running rigging on some boats does go through the deck (things like
twingers/tweekers and backstay adjustment come to mind).
One of the mantras I've accepted is that constantly tweaking headsails can be as detrimental as getting it dialed in and then sailing the boat. True in variable wind you might want to play with stuff more often, but in anything greater than say 8 knots true, you might as well hike the boat flat and play the main than muck with the genoa. The only times I've ever seen genoa tweaking be fairly successful was when air was so light it barely kept the sails in shape..

Thanks for the input. This has always seemed to me to be a really elegant way to handle this issue. Maybe a lot cheaper than ball-bearing adjustable jib cars too! It seems that even if one left out the transverse track, it would still be as good as adjustable cars on a single track. Do the class rules allow lines running through the deck?
